The Big Ten is back and so is Big Ten Betting. The opening week of the Big Ten’s limited nine game season begins on Friday night, as Illinois takes on No.14 Wisconsin, and the loaded weekend ends on Saturday as No.18 Michigan and No.21 Minnesota battle it out in primetime in a top 25 showdown. There’s a lot of money to be made this weekend and here’s a few games we are looking at over here at Questionable Lock.

Illinois v #14 Wisconsin | 8 pm ET | BIG TEN Network | Pick: WIS -19.5

After a demoralizing upset loss to the Fighting Illini last season, the Badgers look poised for revenge as their defense returns over 15 top tacklers from last season. Losing featured back Jonathon Taylor to the NFL, the Badger offense has something to prove with a remade offense and a new man under center in QB Graham Mertz. Look for value in Wisconsin covering the spread as the Fighting Illini offense will have a tough time scoring against an experienced defense on Friday night.

Nebraska v #4 Ohio State | 12 pm ET | FOX | Pick: OSU -27.5/OVER 66.5

There are certain guarantees in life: Death, Taxes, and OSU blowing out conference opponents. While nothing is guaranteed in betting – hence Questionable Lock – OSU returns a playoff-caliber offense and defense against a Nebraska team that looks a lot like last year’s team (the same team that was blown out by OSU 48-7). It is worth noting that the opening line has shifted from -22 to -27.5, so be weary when making a spread bet. Learning from last year’s mistakes, Nebraska should be able to put up more than 7 and the over may ultimately be a safer play.

Rutgers v Michigan State | 12 pm ET | BIG TEN Network | Pick:Under44.5

With an Over/Under total set around 44, this game is going to be a defensive brawl. While Rutgers isn’t the most inspiring team to bet on, new head coach Greg Schiano has plenty of defensive experience to get the most out of his defense. Michigan State’s new head coach Mel Tucker also has a heavy defensive focus from his time in the NFL. It is also worth noting that both teams have yet to choose their starting quarterback for this week’s upcoming game. Therefore, we lean under as this is a feeling out game for both team’s offenses.

#19 Michigan v #21 Minnesota | 7:30pm ET | ABC | PICK: MICH -2.5

Recent reports have indicated that PJ Fleck’s Minnesota squad will be without several key players due to COVID-19. This, and the fact that Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan squad always plays well against ranked opponents at the start of the season, has seen this spread total shift as far as -3.5 in MICH’s favor. While Michigan has disappointed bettors against the likes of top ranked opponents (i.e. OSU) in consecutive years, Minnesota is not as talented as one of those teams. We are taking the points on Michigan this weekend.
